How can I apply for open roles at Heifer International?
We are always looking for dedicated and passionate individuals to join our global team! Heifer’s open positions are located on our Careers page. Our positions are updated regularly, so be sure to check back to see if any positions align with your career goals. Does Heifer offer internships and volunteer opportunities?
Heifer is committed to nurturing future talent and fostering a culture of learning and development. We offer internship opportunities through university partnerships and direct hiring. When we have internship opportunities, we will post them directly on our Careers page.
Volunteers play a vital role in advancing Heifer’s mission, goals, and impact. We greatly appreciate the time and effort we receive from our volunteers. To learn more about how to get involved in your community, visit our Volunteers page. At this time, we only offer volunteer opportunities in the U.S.
After I apply for a role, how long should I wait to hear back before following up?
We take every application seriously and we appreciate the time and effort you put into filling out our application. We recommend following up two to three weeks after applying for an open position on our Careers page, which allows the recruiter to review applications and begin the selection process. If the job posting included a specified closing date, consider waiting after the closing date before reaching out. For any questions about your application, send an email to jobs@heifer.org.
What is Heifer’s typical recruitment process and hiring timeline?
Heifer is committed to hiring top talent for all positions with an inclusive approach and creating equal employment opportunities for all applicants.
The typical recruitment processes take anywhere from 60 to 90 days. Our goal is to fill our open positions as soon as possible and keep all applicants informed throughout the recruitment process.
Heifer’s recruitment process begins with reviewing and shortlisting all the applications we have received. For shortlisted candidates, it involves an initial conversation with one of our recruiters. We also include an interview with the hiring manager, and a minimum of one round of panel interviews to assess the qualifications of the candidates. For technical positions, we may incorporate technical assessments as part of our recruitment process. For the final candidate, we conduct reference and background checks (may vary by location).

How can I check the status of my application?
To check your application status, go to our Careers page:
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Job Seeker Tool and click on “Check Your Application”.
- Enter the email and password associated with your application. You will be able to view the status of your application for the specific position you have applied for.
- The following statuses may appear: New, In Process, Hired, Closed, Not Selected, etc. The statuses reflect where your application status is in the recruitment process

How do I know if certain positions are still actively recruiting?
All positions on the Careers page are actively recruited for. Our recruiters may take a position off the Careers page once we receive a large number of qualified candidates. We post positions externally for a minimum of 2 weeks. We encourage applicants to apply for roles as soon as possible.
If I email my resume, can it be considered without an application?
Only those candidates who apply through our Careers page and/or local official recruiting channels with a completed application will be considered.
If you have not found a role that aligns with your skillsets and interests, you may submit your resume and cover letter to the General Interest Section at the bottom of our Careers page.
How do I set myself up for success when applying for a position at Heifer?
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with Heifer’s mission and work, follow our application process and enter accurate information. Review your resume ahead of time to check for common errors. Your resume should appear organized, easy to read, and clearly showcase your skills, experience, achievements, and capabilities. We recommend writing a cover letter to express your interest in Heifer and why you would be a great fit for a specific position.
If you are selected for an interview, review the job posting carefully, practice common interview questions, and develop concise answers for our interviewers to assess your skillsets and qualifications. We recommend you prepare a few questions for the interviewers to better understand Heifer’s work, the team, and the position.
For both in-person and virtual interviews, be on time. For virtual interviews, we recommend testing the Zoom link prior to your interview. For in-person interviews, ensure you have the correct address and directions upon arrival.
How do I find the location requirements for an open position?
Click on the job posting on our Careers page to find the job location. It is listed under the job title and in the job description.
Global Positions
- Only the Country Name is listed: typically means that the position is based out of that country.
- Country Name and City Name: position may require employee to live within the country and within a commutable distance to the listed city.
- Remote, Global: position can be based out of any of the 19 countries in which Heifer operates. We are open to considering candidates outside of the 19 countries we operate in.
U.S. Positions
- Remote, U.S.: can be based anywhere within the U.S.
- Little Rock, U.S.: position requires the employee to live within a commutable distance to the Little Rock Head Office

How do I know if a role is remote, hybrid, or onsite?
The majority of our positions in Africa, Americas, Asia and Heifer Ranch are onsite as they require physical presence at our project sites, communities, and offices in order to perform essential job duties. Our U.S.-based positions may be remote, hybrid or onsite depending on business needs.

Does Heifer sponsor work visas?
Heifer evaluates work visa sponsorship on a case-by-case basis. We encourage you to apply for positions that interest you and discuss your specific situation with the recruiter if you are selected for an interview.
Does Heifer offer relocation assistance?
We value talent greatly and aim to help ease the burden of moving by offering relocation assistance for positions that require relocation based on business needs, budget availability and candidate’s specific situation. We encourage you to discuss your specific situation with the recruiter.
