The Philippines is an amazing country. I’ve been there before and am looking forward to taking my kids so they can see where Daddy’s family is from. Super Typhoon Haiyan has wreaked havoc in very poor areas of the Philippines.

Everyday, around 2.5 billion people do not have access to improved sanitation, 1.2 billion do not have access to an improved source of water and countless others are going to bed hungry or currently living without a home. To help fight this unfortunate state the world is in, International Club is supporting Heifer International, an organization that helps other communities in need around the globe, by organizing our 1st time ever: International Fashion Show!

Last December the development organization was in the Philippines when Typhoon Boufa hit land. Now, eleven months later staff from the organization is in a similar predicament. Denne says, “We have two staff based there. We haven’t been able to be in contact with them.”

The prospects for Philippines provinces affected by Haiyan are grim. Conservative estimates put it at 1,000 dead, while others fear that 10,000 is closer to the truth. The numbers are still trickling in; many far-flung areas were cut off after the storm passed through. Heifer International is a community-centered NGO fighting hunger and poverty; it “partners with relief agencies and first-responders on the ground to support the efforts in communities where we work, with a focus on livestock and agricultural systems rehabilitation.”

Armenia’s Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan on Friday received a delegation from Heifer International, which is a global nonprofit organization. To note, Heifer International’s Armenia program helps build small and viable farm businesses, and assists in their sustainable development and management.
