Heifer International’s Feast in the Field — the white-attire party kicking off summer ’17 in Little Rock — took place June 9 at the organization’s headquarters and raised about $180,000 as part of its Beyond Hunger initiative.
Heifer International is part of a collaboration that is helping to introduce more high-quality protein into the diets of Haitian children.
The 18-year-old Goshen man had signed up to take care of livestock on the “Woodstock Victory Baltimore” as part of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the Heifer Project, which started in Elkhart County in 1942 by Dan West, a local farmer and church worker.
Her latest challenge is as chairman of Heifer International’s fifth annual Feast in the Field, set for Friday.

In a bid to boost dairy farming in Uganda, Heifer International is partnering with Seeds of Gold magazine to organise the Monitor Publications Limited’s Farm Clinics this year. The clinics will be held in western Uganda in May, eastern Uganda in July and central Uganda in September.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture, global nonprofit Heifer International has distributed more than 1,000 goats since Hurricane Matthew in the department of Grand’Anse in southwestern Haiti. Heifer’s activities also included agricultural assistance. The organization has supported farmers’ associations by providing grain mills to process their products. (French)
The inaugural Urban Farm Fest is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at the Heifer Headquarters in downtown Little Rock, offering a chance for locals to tip their hats to farmers while enjoying a casual night of food and fun down on the farm.
